Art Basel Names Theaster Gates, Julie Mehretu, and Howardena Pindell as 2026 Award Medallists

Art Basel has announced the recipients of its 2026 awards, naming Theaster Gates and Julie Mehretu as medallists in the Established Artists category. Howardena Pindell was selected as the medallist for the Icon Artists category. The awards, a global initiative launched in 2025 to recognize excellence in contemporary art, will be presented at an official ceremony on June 17, 2026.
