Getty Center Announces Campus-Wide Modernization and Temporary Closure Starting 2027
On April 7, 2026, the Getty announced a comprehensive modernization project for its Getty Center campus in Los Angeles. The initiative includes a new tram system, upgrades to the Welcome Hall, and expanded landscaping designed by Gehry Partners, OLIN, and WHY Architecture. To facilitate these improvements, the Getty Center will close to the public from March 15, 2027, until its planned reopening in spring 2028. During the closure, the Getty Villa will remain open and host select works from the Center's collection.
