Getty Center Announces Major Campus Modernization and Temporary 2027 Closure
The J. Paul Getty Trust has unveiled a comprehensive renovation plan for the Getty Center, featuring designs by Gehry Partners, WHY Architecture, and OLIN. The project includes a replacement of the tram system by Doppelmayr, a redesigned arrival station, and an upgraded Welcome Hall to accommodate 1.4 million annual visitors. The Getty Center will temporarily close to the public from March 15, 2027, until spring 2028 to facilitate the upgrades, while the Getty Villa remains operational.
