National Gallery of Art Announces 'Across the Nation' Partnership and 75th Mellon Lecturer for US 250th Anniversary

The National Gallery of Art has unveiled a series of initiatives for America’s 250th anniversary, including the 'Across the Nation' program which will loan masterpieces to 10 partner museums nationwide. This expansion is supported by a monumental gift from trustee Mitchell Rales and will be accompanied by the photography exhibition 'Beneath the Surface' featuring 150 works. Additionally, Aden Kumler of Universität Basel has been appointed to deliver the 75th A. W. Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts in May 2026.
