Thaddaeus Ropac has opened an exhibition featuring 16 large-scale new paintings by German artist Georg Baselitz, who died last month at age 88. The works utilize gold grounds and black line work to depict the nude forms of the artist and his wife, Elke, addressing themes of aging and mortality. The exhibition includes a filmed statement from the artist recorded prior to his death, in which he characterizes the series as a farewell.
