The Uffizi Galleries has completed the removal of a 60-meter-tall construction crane that had dominated the Florence skyline since 2006. The dismantling process, initiated by museum director Simone Verde and Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli, concluded on June 21, 2026. A smaller freight lift will replace the structure to facilitate the ongoing 'Nuovi Uffizi' expansion project while minimizing visual impact on the historic city center. The removal was funded by a coalition of private donors and institutional partners.
