Albert Oehlen and Maya Oehlen Install Ghost Figures at City SALTS from Children's Book
On June 11, 2026, City SALTS announced an installation derived from the children’s board book Kleine und mittlere Gespenster created by Albert Oehlen and his daughter Maya. The volume was produced by cutting into a catalogue of Oehlen’s work to generate ghostlike figures and is issued by Rookie Books, an independent publisher founded by Camillo Paravicini. The exhibition occupies the venue in Birsfelden, Switzerland, and runs June 7–September 11, 2026, with an opening garden party on June 18.
The Signal
The project extends Oehlen’s existing body of work into a new format aimed at younger audiences while maintaining continuity with his collage-based practice. For collectors and curators it signals an institutional willingness to present artist-driven children’s publications as legitimate exhibition content, potentially broadening acquisition categories beyond conventional prints or paintings. The proximity of City SALTS to Basel also positions the show as an accessible satellite during the region’s major art-week calendar.
