German contemporary artist Georg Baselitz has died at the age of 88. Recognized as a central figure in European art, Baselitz gained international prominence for his 'inversion' technique, in which he painted subjects upside down to challenge traditional perspective. His death coincides with ongoing monographic exhibitions of his work at the Museo Novecento in Florence and the Fondazione Cini in Venice.
