Getty Villa to Exhibit Ancient Mycenaean Routsi Crown in 'The Kingdom of Pylos' Opening June 2025
The J. Paul Getty Museum will display the Routsi Crown, a bronze, gold, and silver headpiece dating from 1630 to 1510 BCE, as part of the exhibition 'The Kingdom of Pylos: Warrior-Princes of Mycenaean Greece'. Co-organized with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, the exhibition marks the first time the artifact, considered one of Europe’s oldest crowns, will be shown in North America. To protect the fragile object from seismic activity, Getty conservators utilized 3D scanning, photogrammetry, and a custom-engineered base isolator system for its display.
