Kunsthaus Zürich Elects Dr. Philipp M. Hildebrand as Chair
The Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft elected Dr. Philipp M. Hildebrand as its new Chair at the 127th annual general meeting on 30 May 2022. He received 2,540 of 4,005 valid ballots cast by members. The institution recorded 382,603 admissions in 2021, a 69% increase from 2020, and membership reached a record 24,498. The handover to incoming Director Ann Demeester has been moved forward to 1 October 2022.
The Signal
The appointment positions the Kunsthaus to expand its role as a platform for social and political exchange while maintaining art as its core focus. Record membership and strong early 2022 attendance figures indicate sustained public interest despite pandemic-related losses of CHF 482,431 in 2021. The incoming leadership will navigate rising energy and logistics costs alongside the integration of the Chipperfield extension.
