National Gallery Launches 'National Gallery Summertime' with Extended Hours
On June 1, 2026, the National Gallery launched 'National Gallery Summertime', extending daily opening hours from 3 July until 31 August to 7pm and until 9pm on Fridays. The program keeps the Zurbarán exhibition, retail spaces, bars and restaurants open later while adding evening creative workshops in the Roden Centre for Creative Learning and keeping the Supporters’ House open until 7.30pm. It responds directly to audience demand for flexible hours among Londoners, commuters and summer visitors.
The Signal
The extended schedule forms part of the Gallery’s strategy to broaden access to its Western European collection spanning the late 13th to early 20th century and to position the institution as a year-round destination combining art, dining and socialising. By aligning hours with post-work and evening cultural patterns, the initiative tests new models of visitor engagement that could inform future programming at other major museums.
