The National Gallery of Art has received a $116 million endowment from the Mitchell P. Rales Family Foundation to fund its "Across the Nation" lending program in perpetuity. The gift, the largest for programming in the museum's history, commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States. The initiative facilitates long-term loans of artworks from the national collection to regional museums, following a pilot phase that reached 900,000 visitors across 10 institutions.
