Phillips has announced the auction debut of Lee Bontecou’s Plate 166 (1961) during its Modern & Contemporary Art Evening Sale in New York this May. The wall-mounted sculpture, constructed of steel, welded metal, and canvas, has remained in the same private collection since the year it was created. This sale marks the first public exhibition of the work since the artist's retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in 2003.
