SFMOMA to Present Exhibition Curated by RM of BTS Featuring Personal Art Collection
On May 20, 2026, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art announced RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me, the first museum exhibition featuring artworks from the personal collection of RM of BTS, curated by RM with co-curators América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim. The exhibition runs from October 3, 2026, through February 7, 2027, in its only U.S. presentation and unites 200 works from the collections of RM and SFMOMA. It includes modern and contemporary Korean art by Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rehyun, Kwon Okyon, Kim Yun Shin, To Sangbong, Chang Ucchin and Kim Whanki alongside works by Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe and Paul Klee, with many pieces never before shown publicly in the U.S.
The Signal
The presentation marks SFMOMA’s strategy of partnering with influential private collectors from outside traditional art circles to expand public access to Korean modern and contemporary works. For curators and collectors it demonstrates how cross-cultural pairings can reframe holdings already in museum collections and signals rising institutional attention to RM’s acquisitions. The exhibition’s scale and exclusive U.S. venue may increase visibility for the featured Korean artists and encourage further loans from similar collections.
