Tribute Tate

Alex Farquharson, director of Tate Britain, issued a statement on the death of David Hockney. Hockney's work first entered the Tate collection in 1963. Tate will work with the artist's team on a major exhibition at Tate Britain spanning seven decades and a multimedia installation in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall featuring his opera set designs. The 2017 Hockney exhibition at Tate Britain was the most visited in the institution’s history.

The Signal

The posthumous projects at two Tate sites indicate sustained institutional commitment to presenting the full scope of the artist's output. Collectors and curators can expect continued visibility for Hockney works in permanent collections and temporary displays. The announcement confirms that major museums will maintain programming around his designs and paintings in the years ahead.
