Lempertz Asian Art Auction Realizes 2.65M Euros in Cologne, More Than Doubles Estimate
On June 16, 2026, Lempertz reported that its Asian Art auction on June 13 in Cologne realized 2.65 million euros and more than doubled expectations, resulting in a white-glove sale for the first part of the Astamangala Gallery collection. Nearly all lots sold, led by a Western Zhou ding-type ritual vessel from the Ernst Arthur Voretzsch collection that brought more than 570,000 euros and a Bhagavata Purana miniature of Krishna and Balarama that sold for 254,000 euros. The 21-piece northern German private collection of Indian miniatures exceeded 400,000 euros while a pair of polychrome porcelain bowls reached 380,000 euros.
The Signal
The results underscore sustained collector demand for provenanced Asian material across Chinese bronzes, Indian painting, and Japanese netsuke and calligraphy. Lempertz’s continued focus on Indian miniatures and the scheduled December offering of the first part of the Kress inrō collection position the house for further growth in these categories ahead of the autumn season.
